When iodine is an organic solvent, S, S: I2 → interaction solutions are different color [1.2] added:
C2H2n 2 CCl4: purple
aromatic hydrocarbons: pink, red
Alcohols, amines: Brown
The most common paint thinner [3] is an aliphatic hydrocarbon fraction of crude oil and is purple with I2. Another solvent toluene, an aromatic hydrocarbon, which in turn rose-red with iodine. One third of the paint thinner is acetone, and is not explicitly mentioned in the literature, a donor such as iodine stained brown strongish. (Acetone is miscible with water, but.)
The color of iodine in paint thinner can be used to help identify the solvent.
